Paediatric Advanced Negotiating In Crises course

Paediatric emergencies management and team development

8.30 am – 6 pm in Trent Simulation Centre, QMC

Clinical situations in the emergency department are managed by multidisciplinary teams. Team interactions can deteriorate when individuals are placed in unfamiliar or stressful environments. This is especially true when handing over to the next team, e.g. PICU.

Teams exposed to paediatric emergencies can now receive practical training in team development and practise their interactions during clinical simulations on this new course.

Course overview

This 1 day course has been designed for two teams to work together - one from the emergency department and one from PICU.

The learning objectives for the course are:

- to improve the understanding and use of successful communication strategies

- to improve the understanding and use of successful leadership skills

- to improve the understanding and implementation of effective resource management strategies

- to improve the understanding and implementation of effective methods of conflict resolution

The skills and attitudes highlighted on the course can be directly transferred into the work place.

Who should attend?

The course assumes that all participants are PLS or APLS trained and follow their guidance, but no formal assessment of knowledge will take place.

Reflection on performance is the most powerful learning tool.

There are places on the course for 4 ED nurses and 4 doctors, along with 4 PICU nurses and 4 doctors.
