Describes training less than full time

“I have been doing paediatrics in the Trent region for the past 5 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed it.  I have always felt supported and encouraged. The Consultants here are genuinely interested in what you would like to get out of your posts and work hard to achieve it.  It’s a friendly place to work with a great atmosphere.

More recently, I have switched to less than full time training and am currently working 50% wte.  I can honestly say that I was fully supported all the way through the process and that I wasn’t made to feel like I was “letting the side down”.  Balancing work and childcare can be difficult at times particularly when considering retrievals and staff shortages. Despite these service needs, my team has been very respectful of my role as a mum and the impact this has on working late, swapping shifts etc.  I make no apologies for making my child my No 1 priority and have not needed too.  Giving 100% to my work whilst I am there is recognised and appreciated.  I would have no hesitation in recommending East Midlands North (Nottingham) as a place to train flexibly.”
