Kings Mill Hospital

King’s Mill Hospital is part of the Sherwood Forest Hospitals (NHS) Trust.  Community Paediatrics is also hosted here.  The site is situated in North Nottinghamshire, conveniently located on the District borders between Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield, close to the M1 Motorway.  It is about 18 miles by road from Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham. Paediatric services for the locality are supported from the King’s Mill Hospital site.  There are also outpatient services based at Newark Hospital and community paediatric clinics at many sites around the area.

The King's Mill Hospital has received substantial investment to develop its facilities.  The Modernisation of Acute Services (MAS) Scheme is currently underway with a major redevelopment and rebuilding programme in progress.

The posts at King’s Mill Hospital offers exceptionally wide experience in General Paediatrics and Neonatology including Neonatal Intensive Care.  The Paediatric Medical and Surgical Wards have recently undergone a £2M rebuilding programme to provide modern purpose-designed accommodation.  Robin Hood Ward includes inpatient facilities; a clinic area which houses the Ambulatory Service; a short stay bay; HDU, excellent resuscitation and treatment room; single rooms with en suite facilities and office space with IT access.

Neonatology

The Level II Special Care Baby Unit has 18 cots of which 3 are for neonatal intensive care and 4 for High Dependency. Generally we provide intensive care for all babies from 27 weeks gestation.  The unit is equipped for conventional ventilation and high frequency oscillation. King’s Mill Hospital is playing an active part in the Trent Neonatal Intensive Care Network.

General Paediatrics

There are 7 acute paediatric consultants based at King’s Mill Hospital.  The service supports regular satellite tertiary clinics covering the specialties within paediatrics  (neurology, endocrinology, cardiology, genetics, CF, orthopaedic, nephrology, urology).  Specialist Nurses in Diabetes, Epilepsy, Respiratory Disease and Allergy support the relevant areas.

Community Paediatrics

3 consultants and 3 staff grades offer community-based services around the area. Special interests are autism, ADHD and neurodisability. There is a Child development centre in Kings Mill Hospital and a similar clinic operating in Newark staffed by community paediatricians. We also have a full time Associate Specialist in paediatric audiology. We have recently appointed an autism/ADHD nurse who works within the vulnerable children’s section. There is an on call rota for child abuse every afternoon and a consultant 24 hour rota for sexual abuse. We plan to have our office base within the paediatric department when the new hospital is completed.
